Ferrari is set to take the plunge with F2002 !

" It is almoust 99 percent certain "
Four-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher has revealed that he is 99 percent certain that the new F2002 would be participating in the season opening Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne on March 3. Schumacher was speaking after two days of tests at Fiorano, Ferrari's private track where on Sunday, the first outing in the new car, he posted a new track record of 58.620.
At last week's launch technical director Ross Brawn had said the team was uncertain whether to start the new season with the new car or last year's successful F2001 model. Brawn had also raised the possibility of one driver using the F2002 and the other F2001 in Australia, however it now appears as if Schumacher and teammate Rubens Barrichello will be driving the new 2002 contender after all.
"It is 99 percent certain I will race at Melbourne with the F2002," said Schumacher. "In particular I am surprised how reliable it is. There have been no problems up to now and we are confident about the future."
However, Michael did admit that before they could make the final decision, the new car, which was unveiled last Wednesday at Maranello, would have to be put through the equivalent of a Grand Prix.
"Before going to Australia we will simulate a Grand Prix so that we can be totally sure about the first race. The F2002 should be faster (than the F2001)."
Meanwhile Schumacher's Brazilian teammate Rubens Barrichello is testing in Scarperia near Florence with the old F2001.
